The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of exercise on muscle transcription factor protein expression and muscular function recovery after muscle contusion injury in rats. Forty five rats were divided into three groups; control (CON, n=15), no exercise following contusion injury (MC, n=15), exercise following contusion injury (MC-EX, n=15). MyoD and myogenin induction levels of MC-EX were lower than those of CON but higher than those of MC and the difference among three groups was significant (MyoD: F=195.9, p=.001; myogenin: F=329.8, p=.001). The result of balance beam test measuring for muscle function also showed that MC-EX was higher than MC though it was lower than CON(F=269.8, p=.000). It was also found with the morphological examination using an light microscope that cell membrane and cytoplasm of injured muscle still remained uncured in MC while cytoplam was almost recovered with the damage of cell membrane remained in MC-EX. In conclusion, low intense exercise following muscle contusion seems to facilitate the muscle function recovery.
