As soon as the end of the Second World War, Korea became a divided nation. And two Koreas have made their own country based on capitalism and socialism respectively. For 70 years, North and South Korean have lived in completely different cities. Even though they assume to be one country again, North Korea and South Korea are too far away by complete division based on the cold war system. The difference between the two is considered to be obliterated, not to be understood for peaceful coexistence. Since architecture is a mirror of society, architecture is a good way to understand the society. However, today architecture is used to be abused to keep the rich or to make money.
If we want architecture works for social integration between the North and the South, we have to train and to support experts such as architects and scholars who study the North Korean Architecture based on socio-cultural perspective. ‘Free ride and Stopover’ in study of North Korea and its Architecture, which depends on money is poison in the Unification of North and South.
