Buddha’s life story from the Buddhist scriptures has been passed down as the biography of the Buddha, which shows obvious features in various genres in the process. The Buddhist scriptures were introduced to Korea and Japan and were accepted as the original forms. However, as time went by, certain changes were noticed in the relationship or the expression of the feelings between the characters in the scriptures. It is worth noting Buddha’s inner conflicts as a human being. This paper explores Seokssiwonryu of China; Seokkayoraeshipjihaengrok, Seokbosangjeol, and Wolinchongangjikok’ of South Korea; and Syakannohonchi of Japan. Description of the former lives of Buddha and Yashyodara, and their marriage relationship has remarkable changes over time. Still, it is one of the characteristic features in South Korea and Japan that they have accepted the biography of the Buddha as stories and not as religious tracts.
