This study is on the actual conditions of new type I-adjectives that are now used widely in Japanese. There are many new type I-adjectives made by the contraction original adjectives, other words of native origin, words of foreign origin, and Chinese characters. These new type I-adjectives are begun to use by young people as coined words or buzzwords. Several of these words have become widespread as general Japanese words. I have named this kind of word a “new type I-adjective” and showed the actual conditions refer to wordcomposition. I have analyzed around 200 new type I-adjectives which I gathered.
New type I-adjectives are mainly formed by young people. Some of them have disappeared, while some of them continue to exist and are included in Japanese dictionaries. These words reflect young people"s thoughts faithfully, which is why they form and use them.. The biggest influence on the spread of new type I-adjectives is the widespread use of mobile technology. Young people need very simple communicational tools. That is why the new type I-adjectives are formed and extended.
The formation and use of the new type I-adjectives by the young generation indicates their interest in language, and it should not necessarily be criticized. We should have a view the younger generation without prejudice based on common language. I do not promote the spread of the new type I-adjectives. But I assert that attention should be paid to how the younger generation uses language because fellow communication is very important to them.
