Background: Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is a potent mobilizer of hematopoietic stem cells from the bone marrow into the blood. G-CSF also has a direct neuroprotective effect on the central nervous system. However, effects of G-CSF on mechanical nerve injury are unknown. In this study, we examined the effects of G-CSF on regeneration of mechanical nerve injury in rat. Materials and Methods: In 8-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats, the mechanical injury of sciatic nerve was induced with compressing for 20 sec by using a needle holder.
