The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of achievement goal orientation on self-management and performance strategy of middle and high school kumdo players. The subjects of this study consisted of 309 middle and high school players. The used instruments were the Kim(2001) for measuring achievement goal orientation scale, the Huh(2002) for measuring self-management scale and the Kim & Oh(2002) for measuring performance strategies(2002). The data were analyzed by t-test, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis as a statistical method. The result of this study were as follows. First, in the subscale of achievement goal orientation, task orientation positively influenced to interpersonal management, mental management, and training management. And ego orientation positively influenced to interpersonal management, mental management, physical management, and training management. Second, in the subscale of achievement goal orientation, task orientation positively influenced to imagery and goal orientation, control of condition, and selftalk, but negatively influenced to emotional control. And ego orientation positively influenced to imagery and goal orientation, control of condition, self-talk, and relaxation. Third, in the subscales of self-management, interpersonal management, mental management, and training management positively influenced to imagery and goal orientation. And mental management, physical management, and training management positively influenced to control of condition. And training management negatively influenced to emotional control. And interpersonal management, mental management, and physical management positively influenced to self-talk. And mental management, physical management, and training management positively influenced to relaxation.
