The purposes of this study are to measure the frequency of acute injuries and to estimate the prevalence of overuse chronic injuries in Taekwondo Poomsae-competitors. In methods, a prospective cohort for acute injuries and the retrospective cohort design for overuse injuries were used. A total of 596 middle/high school/university students and adult athletes (age range from 12-50) participated in the competition (Aug 14-15, 2011). Among 596 competitors, 236 athletes participated in overuse chronic injury reports. A simple check-off form was used for the injury report. In results, a total of 2 acute injuries that were not directly related to competition were recorded. A total of 167 overuse chronic injuries reported. Overall prevalence rate of chronic injury was 70.8%(F: 85%, M: 64%). The x2-test was used to reveal the difference in total chronic injury rate by possible risk factors such as gender, age, history of past, and training hours/frequency etc. There were significant differences in gender, training frequency, additional training sessions, and past injury(p 05). In conclusions, the incidence of acute injury was rare but, the prevalence rate of overuse injury was very high in Taekwondo Poosae competitors. To reduce and prevent the sport-Poomsae related overuse chronic injuries, coaches` recognition and concern about overuse injuries is necessary. Also, the government organization of Taekwondo should be considered providing education programs related this issue. In addition, more research on this topic are needed.
