The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between alcoholics’ adult attachment and the risk of relapse and verify the mediating effects of social support. The main results of the study are as follows: First, all the nine measurement variables in this study; anxiety attachment, avoidant attachment, family support, friend support, expert support, the risk of relapse 1, the risk of relapse 2, the risk of relapse 3, and the risk of relapse 4 were measured to be statistically significant(χ²=43.720, df=24, RMSEA=.053, TLI=.975, CFI=.983). Second, the goodness of fit of the structure model in this study was identified to be χ²=172.246, df=75, RMSEA=.067, TLI=.895, and CFI=.925 indicating that the structure model was verifying the results well. In addition, the degrees of explanation of endogenous variables by independent variables in the model were checked and the results indicated the degrees of explanation at 71.6% for anxiety attachment, 80.7% for avoidant attachment, 55.8% for family support, 54.7% for friend support, 12.4% for expert support, 62.0% for the risk of relapse 1, 61.0% for the risk of relapse 2, 73.0% for the risk of relapse 3, and 69.4% for the risk of relapse 4. Third, the individual path coefficients of this study were analyzed. According to the results, adult attachment affected social support, social support affected the risk of relapse, and adult attachment affected the risk of relapse. Fourth, the mediating effects of social support on the relationship between adult attachment and the risk of relapse in this study were checked and according to the results, the effects of alcoholics’ adult attachment on the risk of relapse were mediated by social support. With regard to the abovementioned results, implications of this study and a proposal for follow-up studies were presented.
