Since the inception of augmented reality, its potential has been well appreciated in diverse areas, and much theoretical development has been reported through active research efforts in academia. Recently, its technological advance has been accelerated along with the rapid development of hardware, and interesting applications have been introduced for various purposes. In particular industries started to use the technology for improving manufacturing, maintenance, training, etc. However, few applications have been introduced in shipbuilding and offshore structure areas. In this presentation, examples of industrial application using AR are briefly reviewed, and issues are discussed when it is applied to shipbuilding and offshore structure industry.
