Danyang U family in Daegu Wolchon area experienced two steps of jokgye formation in the 17 · 18 century. In 1768, a dispute occurred in this family surround selling the property of clan. We can confirm that there were several debates among the person directly involved, the members of clan and the local government in the archive material.
The key point of dispute is that wheather the social status of Hongpyong is related to the social status of his family or the social status of whole clan. With this point, the dispute among the members of the clan arose. The process of dispute can be devided into three steps which is are discussion and mediation inside the clan, failure of mediation and the intensification of the dispute, suit to the local government.
Besides the analysis of the case, we also use the cases in Huizhou area in Ming · Qing dynasty for comparison to illuminate the features of the dispute about clan property in Joseon dynasty.
