Climate change due to global warming is a big concern. One of the main reasons for global warming is CO2 emission from consumption of fossil fuels. The heating load in a greenhouse is very high and thus it needs large amount of fuel and emits large quantity of CO2. Use of unused energy sources for heating greenhouse can help to reduce this CO2 emission. For this study waste heat from different sources is used in a heat pump system for heating and cooling greenhouse. If we use this heat pump system, using IPCC method, we can compare how much CO2 emission is decreased as compared to conventional gas boiler system. Waste water from power plant has the highest source temperature, and thus the electricity consumption by heat pump is very low, significantly lowering CO2 emission. Compared to gas boiler, there is 67% decrease in CO2 emission.
