The NNE-striking Ilgwang Fault, a member of the Yangsan Fault System representing one of the most salient geomorphic features in the southeastern Korean Peninsula, extends for over 30 km on the satellite and aerial photographs. The Ilgwang Fault, however, has not been studied much in comparison with other faults in the system such as the Yangsan and Ulsan faults mainly due to poor exposure, despite of its importance for understanding the neotectonic process of Korea. In the latest exposed outcrops along the lineament of the Ilgwang Fault, we conducted detailed field descriptions and kinematic analysis to determine the nature of deformation and to interpret the paleostress field. The Ilgwang Fault can be classified into three groups based on the direction and nature of faults: 1) Main fault showing high-angle dip with strike of N03~19°E and dextral strike-slip or dextral-reverse oblique-slip senses, which developed along the strikingly recognized lineament, 2) Dextral strike-slip or dextral-reverse oblique-slip faults, which run parallel or sub-parallel to the main fault at the distance of 1~1.5 km west of the main fault, 3) NE-trending synthetic branch faults showing the same slip sense as the main fault, and linking with a neighbouring fault segment. The main fault, observed in the outcrops, cut the partially hornfelsed sedimentary rocks of the Icheonri Fo ... 전체 초록 보기
