This article is to review professor Joong Suk Suh’s contribution to the New Testament Study of the Synoptic Gospels. He not only introduced a new methodology, i.e. socio-political approach to the New Testament, to Korean scholarly world, but also made a significant stride in this methodology. With this methodology he analyzed the texts of the Gospels and inquired into the socio-political situations of the communities behind them.
He has been a man of passion and ideas. Not only his survey on the advanced research was thorough and critical, but every argument in each of his articles came from his own originality. His arguments are both creative and persuasive, so that they opened a new stage of the research in this field.
His academic achievement also contributed to the sound faith of Christians. Besides numerous academic articles and volumes, he published many spiritual essays and books for many common Christians based on his academic research.
As a scholar, a teacher, and a administrator, he has been the greatest man who rendered great services to the New Testament scholarly world in the turning point from the 20th century to the 21st.
