Objectives : This study was to investigate the necessity of opening an independent subjects, and the current status of education related to national health insurance at dental colleges and graduate schools of dentistry.
Method : The survey was conducted for 600 dentists who got dentist license during 2000-2004. Stratified systemic sampling with a graduated school as a atratum was done among 3,947 population using register of Korean Dental Association. Replied received from 136 people and Characteristic of each question was analyzed by frequency.
Results : 86% of respondents replied on the need for independent subjects opening of National Health Insurance. Respondents regarded ‘practice of health insurance claim’, ‘theory of health insurace claim’, and ‘claim raising against settlement’ as important contents of health insurance education to be taught in dental schools. However, there was a significant gap between what dentists want to be taught and what is being given, as dental schools were teaching‘ health insurance system’ and ‘health insurance law’ as main contents in year 2012
Conclusions : Establishment of independent subject related to health insurance with ‘health insurance claim’ and ‘claim raising against settlement’ as its main contents in dental schools is needed to reduce the gap between needs of dentists and current status of health insurance education.
