This research is to analyze the unique cheering culture of Lotte Giant in depth, and to understand the cheering culture. To reach this purpose, materials were collected through the participation observation, interview in depth, materials in the media and press reports and materials in the internet. The analysis of the materials was accomplished by the cultural and technical analysis of Spradley (1980). The result of this research by the investigation subjects are like these.
The formation process of cheering culture for Lotte Giants is comprised of the process of the embryonic stage, the middle stage, the recessive stage and the soaring period. First of all, the process of the embryonic stage is formatted by the process of the birth of representative cheering song, ‘Come back to Busan harbor.’, the indifference of the professional baseball team for players and fans and the excessive cheering atmosphere of 1980’s. The following is the middle stage, and this is the period which the representative cheering of Lotte was created by the appearance of the private cheer leader and which the occasion for the systematical cheering culture was provided. The recessive stage is the tragic period that Lotte Giant was at the bottom of the league in four times in succession. The Soaring stage is the period that Lotte Giant entered the post season in eight years in 2008, and it is formatted by the process of update in cheering culture of Lotte.
