Research on leisure may be divided in two categories; a functional approach to leisure needs and benefits of leisure and a conflict theory perspective on alienation from leisure activities and unequal distribution of leisure resources. The former is based on academic sociology while the latter is grounded on critical sociology. Now as a matter of such research approach, leisure can be connected with discussion on the culture of the apace and time of leisure as different concepts of space and time are included in leisure activities. Those concepts can create, preserve, and change values, norms, and material things that have dominated a society. Therefore, the conceptual review of the leisure studies in the perspective of the culture of space and time may contribute to the interdisciplinary research on leisure in the future.
