Contemporary fashion insists fashion designers individualism within their own creativity in aesthetic rather than adopting trends in other ways. Women’s fashion has been coincided with ‘feminism’ regarding the norm of the ‘beauty’ depends on each different society through the decades. However, diversity in fashion has been opened up its new era after the Avant-Garde and the Post-Modernism in the Twentieth Century. This research focuses on interpretation of ‘ridiculousness’ in women’s fashion in open concepts. The study covers the philosophy of the Comic theory to define the definition and draw the aesthetic values of ridiculousness. Women’s fashion designs were sorted through the fashion web-site (www.style.com) and fashion texts to collect representative visual samples. Ridiculousness has been discussed from the ancient period and it juxtapositions the meanings of the ugliness, defection, aggressive form, irony, and the freedom from the constraint etc. Also, the aesthetic values of contradiction and deviation that exists within. Contradiction involves a new perspective, humor, and comical element ruled by incompatible aspects’ reconciliation or antagonistic relationship. Following that, deviation comes with the meaning of freedom from the restrictive discipline and aspires towards a utopian world. Since the beginning of the Twentieth Century, there has been more individual expression and an idea in fashion construction and break away from the notion to show comical personality which contains designer’s belief and creative ability. Ridiculousness in fashion reinterprets criterion empowered by the old system of the society as well as conservative ideas about women’s fashion and it makes fashion to be able to get closer as an art form. Furthermore, it concludes that contemporary fashion allows wide possibilities which can create differentiation and new development to appeal true self. Therefore, designers who seek for their own unique expression and technique regarding their on perspectives in fashion and their efforts will lead the future fashion world with the extraordinariness.
