This study surveys news articles produced by Yonhap News Agency on Mexico and Brazil from 2010-2011 in order to explore Korean news media’s biasness on Latin American news. According to this study, news articles produced during the time period did not reflect diverse aspects of the two countries. Rather, the news often focused on a few specific issues. In case of Mexico, Yonhap News Agency reported intensively on crime and security in Mexico while Brazilian news were mostly about its booming economy. This paper sees such concentration of news production as media monoculture. In other words, Yonhap News Agency cultivates crime news in Mexico and economy news in Brazil as colonial powers produced a specific crop in its colony. This study provides us a theoretical concept of media monoculture to look into Korean news media’s coverage in international news and sheds lights on the patterns of biasness in the international news coverage.
