Interest in the history of the Cold War among American historians has been growing since the end of the conflict, and the study been greatly influenced by various new historical approaches. The "cultural turn" that has influenced Western history scholarship since the 1980s has been to diversify the subjects and actors in the history of the Cold War. "Transnational turn" has emerged as an important historical approach that has contributed to expanding the scope and contents of the subject. The recent "global turn" has further stimulated American Cold War historians by shedding new light on the roles of countries other than the United States and the Soviet Union and drawing attention to local historical contexts.
