Contemporary scene of worldwide Christianity demonstrates that the center of gravity of Christianity has shifted from the West to the non-Western world. The emergence of the so-called "world Christianity" calls for historiographical attention. What is today`s vantage point for historians who write the history of Christianity? What has been changed in the writing of Christian history during the last century? What has brought such changes about? How do these changes precipitate a new historiography? The historiographical trajectory during the twentieth century clearly reveals the missionary impact on Christian historiography. This article examines two important mission historians in Anglo-American circle, Kenneth Scott Latourette and Andrew Walls; the former represents the first half of the twentieth century, and the latter the second half, with two phases of historiographical development-Latourettean and Wallsean. Christian historiography reflects two significant changes in perspective: global and cross-cultural. A new genre of historiography, which can be called a "world Christian historiography," has enlarged, enriched, and enhanced perspectives that overcome the limitations of the traditional church and mission historiographies. Church history writings have been so far Western(Euro-American) oriented. Likewise, mission history writings have been missionary centered. These approaches distorted the global reality of Christianity with an unbalanced view. A new approach is much more corrective, integrative, and bidirectional. There have been not many historiographical studies in mission even though Korean now is the second largest missionary sending nation with more than 100 year`s of the Korean Church history. This study suggests historiographical implications for mission studies and the contribution of the Korean Church to the world Christian community.
