    A Warehouse Management System(WMS) controls the movement and storage of materials within a warehouse and processes the material handling transactions. A WMS aims to increase efficiency and accuracy of the material handling processes. In spite of the benefits, implementing a WMS often provides challenges to a company, since it involves building stable interface with existing information systems and process reengineering of all associated processes, which incurs considerable cost and time. Thus, most companies focus on operational stability and, as a result, often neglect efficiency of a WMS. This paper provides a methodology that enhances the efficiency of inventory handling processes in a WMS. First, monthly stock and release data have been analyzed. Then the cell loading rule has been defined to minimize the travel distance of a Stacker Crane(SC). Based on real data of a pharmaceutical company, a time series analysis using an ARIMA model has been adopted to forecast demand. Simulations showed that the proposed method can reduce the travel distance of a S/C, thereby increasing efficiency of a WMS.
