Current network systems have expanded and become large-scale networks, which consist of heterogeneous device types or network topologies. These network systems are also dynamically changing according to the desired goals that are defined by services or business models. Therefore, it is difficult to access it through existing network management methods for monitoring and troubleshooting by human. To conveniently access these network systems, many researchers have started working on a new network management system called an autonomic network. An autonomic network enables automatic management according to changes happening in the environment without human intervention. Thus, the network aims to orchestrate management instead of requiring traditional network management. However, this proposed research does not consider the characteristics of the autonomic network. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics based on pre-existing research work and highlight challenging issues and future work for the autonomic network.
