    In South Korea, there is a standard to reduce the building energy consumption, ‘The building energy saving design standards’, which restrict the envelope performance. However, these standards focus on residential building that mainly occur heating load by low internal heat gain and is not suitable for office building that mainly occur cooling load by high internal heat gain. Therefore envelope design standards of tropical area were searched where cooling load is occur yearly based on performance base and normative base. The energy simulation was performed and find out standards of Korea is over setting-up. The simulation results show the ‘U’ shape energy consumption graph and minimum point is differ by location, internal heat gain, envelope performance, so difficult to set the standards by normative base. Consequently, when improving the standards to office building in Korea is suitable for performance base rather than subdivide the present standards.
