Sustainable tourism is defined as "tourism that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". This concept has been popular for last 30 years in academic and practical world of tourism. However, there are not many cases applying this concept in reality because it is ambiguous and hard to estimate. In terms of this, the purpose of the study is to develop sustainable tourism indicators(STIs) focusing on comparison of island and non-island. The premis of the study is that each area has different indicators because it is different and unique, so that largely the two different areas, island and non-island, were selected for the study. First, the researchers reviewed related previous studies and identified potential STIs in environmental, economic and socio-cultural areas. Second, the expert survey was performed to identify STIs applicable to island and non-island in comparison. The results of the survey indicated the differences of the two areas significantly. For importance, island area was evaluated environmental, socio-cultural and economic STIs in order while non-island area was considered economic, socio-cultural and environmental STIs. Finally, the academic and practical implications of the study were discussed and presented.
