Oh, Jung-ran. 2004.2. The Distance and Resyllabification of Jaechul-ca and Sanghap-ca in Hunmin-jungum. Korean Linguistics 22, 267 ~ 298. The purpose of this paper is to prove that the perception of Hunmin-jungeum’s creators on sound value and letter value is caused by the syllable structure, by invoking syllable model of Shaw(1993) that claims that the syllable structure is controlled by the relationship between syllable, nucleus, mora, and segment. Chochul-ca and Jaechul-ca share a common feature that they both have 1 mora. But Chochul-ca is consisted of 1 segment, while in case of Jaechul-ca 1 mora is consisted of 2 segments. Sanghap-ca is the letter that represent sounds that is consisted of two moras. When observing phoneme appearances that occur in Jaechul-ca and Sanghap-ca, it could be found that throughout Korean language history, Jaechul-ca and Sanghap-ca have been experiencing the resyllabification toward unmarkedness of 1 syllable, 1 nucleus, 1 mora, 1 segment; this is called single vowelization.
