Drawing on organization theory and sport management literatures, this study explores the effect of team cohesion on performance of Korean professional basketball teams. Specifically, we examine moderating effects of coach tenure and capabilities to incorporate contextual determinants affecting competitive consequences of sport organizations led by team chemistry. Among 170 team observations (10 teams for 17 seasons) and 2,572 players comprising Korean Basketball League (KBL) for (1997/1998 to 2013/2014 league seasons), our manifested panel sample eligible for empirical testing represent 160 team and 2,532 player-level data due to data availability. Followed by Hausman test, we employed fixed effect Generalized Least Square (GLS) regression to examine our research model. Our research findings suggest that the level of team cohesion demonstrate positive linear effect on performance of Korean professional basketball teams. Also, both coach tenure and capabilities strengthen the main relationship which typically demonstrates prevailing interaction effects among organizational performance determinants. This study can contribute to a better understanding of how organizational dynamics invigorated by team cohesion and coaching traits can elevate sustainable competitive advantages.
