As a follow-up study of Kim and Kim (2015), this paper aims at verifying whether the perception cues, which have been demonstrated by Kim and Kim (2015), for voiceless stops in word boundaries are on the right track. Kim and Kim (2015) show that the English listeners and the Korean listeners have used the same perception cues as VOT, consonants, and vowels in their perception of word boundary voiceless stops. In spite of this, it was found in Kim and Kim (2015) that the perception rate of the Korean listeners was lower than that of the English listeners. In order to account for this, this paper argues that the discrepancy is due to the fact that the Korean listeners" perception patterns are based on their production patterns that are definitely influenced by their L1, which makes the Korean listeners" perception patterns different from the English listeners".
