This study attempts to describe human gestures as a type of linguistic signs, which consist of another types, i.e. signal, indicator, and expression. In this paper, first of all, the problem of sign definition will be arisen. Alternative answers have been given by different traditions of semiotics for the formal aspect of signs. While logic-oriented semiotics like Morris(1938) evaluate the distinction between forms and substance with the distinction between signs and meanings, linguistic-oriented semioticians like Saussure(1916) and Hjelmslev (1943) use the distinction to differentiate two kinds of aspects within signs, as well as within meanings. When we try to examine these two different point of view on the formal aspects of signs, we have to acknowledge the interaction between the semiotics and linguistics, and the semiotic-reconstruction in linguistics. In addition, this reconstruction gives us a potential which human gestures can be considered as a type of linguistic signs.
