The terms of the ‘one-room dwelling’ began to attract attention according to increasing of 1-2 person households in the 1990s. In previous studies, existing researches on the ‘one-room dwelling’ were many, but meaning researches on the terms were few. The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning of the terms about ‘one-room dwelling’ of the Korean dictionaries and architecture dictionaries. For this purpose, the first study was divided into three periods. The second study investigated publishing of the Korean dictionaries and architecture dictionaries and analyzed meaning of the ‘one-room dwelling’ written in the Korean dictionaries and architecture dictionaries. The result are summarized as follows. 1) The terms for ‘one-room dwelling’ were written by loan words in dictionaries. 2) The ‘il-sil’ was interpreted in a single room. But it had a meaning of the family home 3) After liberation, the ‘single room house’ meant a dwelling unit. 4) The ‘one-room house’ meant to combine unit space in a single room. The result of this study is expected to provide useful information for small sized housing study.
