High-rise apartment buildings steadily increase in Korea; 0.7% of the total households number are being supplied annually. It is pointed out that the difference between previous living conditions and high-rise apartment affects the housing consciousness of residents. But there is a lack of research on housing mobility and residents" consciousness in high-rise APT. In order to determine the residents" consciousness and housing mobility in high-rise APT this study conducted questionnaire survey focused on floor in high-rise APT.
Research findings are as followings. First, the experience in high-rise apartment affects preferred floor and housing type such as a high-rise APT continuously in the future. Second, analysis of residential satisfaction associated with floor indicates that the boundary floor for the relation between level of floor and satisfaction level is 21th floor. Satisfaction level of residents differs depending on the age, living floor, living floor space, the type of past housing, and housing values of the resident, etc. Third, cluster analysis illustrates that two groups of residential consciousness are divided: <group1> prefer “urban / apartment / high-rise floor”, whereas <group2> prefer “suburb / detached house / low-rise floor”.
