It is very necessary to know about child recognition of residential environment to plan and design an environment proper for children’s growth and development. By the way, the studies so far to apprehend the environmental planning elements for children have been done mostly in the position of adults and recently the importance of childhood experience was recognized so that the studies through memory record in which adults are asked to look back on their childhood are being done. The studying method of Cognitive Map, a study technique in which the contents of environmental recognition is displayed into pictures and its elements are analyzed, is used in geography many times and it can be a good tool for studying child environmental recognition. Despite the fact that the child pictures are the good visual language that can express their own thoughts, we can say the child environment studies using cognitive map have been completely zero. In this study, cognitive map is going to be applied to the field of child residential environment studies to understand the contents child recognize about their residential environment.
