The purpose of the study was to investigate and analyze the home maintenance difficulties experienced by elderly people living in their own houses to support aging in place. The data was collected through in depth interviews from March 21 to 31, 2012, and the sample consisted of 11 respondents living in multi-family housing units in Seoul. The results were as follows : 1) The respondents faced the difficulties in maintaining their rooms and bathrooms and suffered physical pain from cleaning. 2) The maintenance difficulties in the kitchen resulted from fatigue and decreased interest. 3) Wiping windows was the most difficult work for the respondents among home maintenance works. 4) Disposing of recyclable waste and garbage was difficult because it was conducted only once a week, so the respondents had to carry large volumes of waste. Almost all of the respondents wanted to stay in their own home, so home maintenance is a very important factor which can affect residential continuity. Therefore, home maintenance services must become more systematically organized.
