Many researchers have investigated the association between people and surrounding environments especially in hospitals focusing on the influences to patients’ psychological status. So far, researches about sickroom have been done but not rest space of ward department even though the relation between patients - especially children - is crucial for convalescence. In particular, children in hospital need appropriate environment matching their cognitive development stages. They face various mental and emotional challenges such as separation from their home and distressing process in hospital which leads to unfavourable health outcomes. Numerous design elements of medical space can influence patients’ psychological process. Matching the environment according to the patients’ desire may reduce parental perception by children and fright of unfamiliar surroundings. Therefore, more specific method to evaluate and improve surrounding environments for child-patients is essential to foster convalescence of children. For objective standard to estimate, most frequently utilized index by preceding studies was considered. Since high reliability of research of Ulrich is confirmed in many applied study cases and quotations so far, this research singled out 3 components for criteria and applied to medical centres of Korea more than 200 hospital beds to estimate present condition.
