The building construction industry in the past was driven by rapid growth, resulting in an equally swift quantitative growth. As most appreciated values at the time were promptness and effectiveness, qualities looked for in the entrants of the industry were limited to those senses.
However, a developing society and a diversified standard of value brought about changes to the industry and those trends can be summarized into the following three keywords: Convergence, Value Chain and Globalization.
As a person with a firsthand experience in the building construction industry as an industry expert for many years, I intend to propose a directional sense in the way curriculum and education policy those are set in the universities by presenting phenomenon witnessed in each of the three keywords as well as some real problems that we face in the actual work environment. This is to ultimately bring about competiveness to the industry in general through a systematic and a realistic building engineering curriculum.
