This paper addresses any-type NPIs in English Biclausal Sentences. The study reveals how the factors of position and proficiency level influence second language acquisition. For this study, an experiment was conducted with three EFL groups of different proficiencies who were born in Korea. The most important finding in the experiment is that the EII (intermediate group) produced NPIs most frequently among the three groups, except ENS type. This suggests that the EFL learners` proficiency in English does not always affect the frequency of NPIs. What causes this? The results show that two types of other responses are the main factors. One factor is an indefinite pronoun and the other factor is a double negation. The results also indicate that the participants have relatively less difficulty with local licensing of NPIs in English when the embedded clause is negated, compared with long-distance licensing for NPIs in English. This implies that they know the c-command condition within a clause, but they could not apply it across a clause boundary.
