Determination of the external excitation will be one of the most important tasks in structural design. However direct measurement of such loads will often not be feasible due to the structural size, large force magnitudes and practical instrumentation difficulties in general, whereas measurement of the structural response is far more convenient. In this paper, an inverse method to estimate the input forces on the structure using the structural responses is presented. The inverse method is based on the Kalman filter and least square algorithm. Studies have been carried out on a cantilevered beam by using beam element.
