The purpose of the study was to find definition of defect through case analysis in residential interior design and to categorize types of defect disputes. With this, we can give an aid for basic study to find solutions to defect disputes in residential interior design. First, we did literature search of defect disputes in architectural design and interior design. Second, we recategorized with interior design in defect division by activity in Korean Housing Act . Third, we found 20 case researches of defect disputes in residential interior design from 2012 to 2015. We analysed this case researches with by building life cycle, by state of construction, by activity, and by design performance. As a result, we knew that there were many defect disputes on construction and after construction and many defect disputes of construction is in bad condition. By activity, we found many defect disputes of insulation work and water-proofing work. By design performance, there were many functional and aesthetic defect disputes.
