The developmental characteristics for anthropometry, motor ability and bio-mechanics related to the ball throwing skill in later children are investigated by statiscal analysis. For the study, 31 boys aged 9, 10 and 11 are selected at random. 44 variables are investigated in total ; 14 items in anthropometry, 7 items in motor ability and 23 items in biomechanics. The form of throwing a rubber ball with a weight of 150g and a diameter of 7cm is filmed at the rate of 100 fps by two 16㎜ high speed cinecamera for the DLT. The result for the development of the skill is obtained as follow. The increase in the standing height and limb length with age are significant, but those in the other anthropometric variables are not. All the anthropometric variables except limb girth show that the speed of growth increases with age. The change in development of the motor ability for age is irregular. The motor patterns of the ball throwing, with the exception of the velocities of the ball, hand and wrist at release, and the release angle, are mastered at 11 years of age. The difference in the maximum velocities of connected segments in upper limb increases with age, due to development of muscular systems. The displacement of hand and wrist, and the velocities of hand and wrist at release increase with age, but those of elbow and shoulder decrease with age. Initial velocity of the ball is closely correlated to the range, but the velocities of hand and wrist at release are less correlated to the range. The factors highly correlated to initial ball velocity are the heights of the ball and the center of gravity at release, the stride length, the displacements of hand and wrist and the veocities of hand, wrist and the center of gravity at release.
