Nowaday, we are not familiar with the Westernized housing culture. This is due to the difference between the Western and non-Western lifestyles. To get rid of these lifestyle differences, we need to know the characteristics of Yin-Yang and five elements in traditional architecture. And we have to understand what this features mean in architecture. So this research encourage you to approach these features modernly. This approach and understanding will be a basis for leading people to a positive expansion of information in the future design of architectural space. However, in the domestic architecture academy, the basic datas of the five -element principle of Yin-Yang are very rare. There are also no case study of understanding of these features. Therefore, this study focused on the recognition of college students about yin-yang and five elements principles in architectural space design. The details are as follows. First, the study examines how they understand well about knowledge of Yin-Yang and five elements in college architecture education. And, in terms of architectural space, figures out why knowledge of Yin-Yang and five elements is required. Second, it identifies the important factors of the characteristics by the five elements and spatial change in architectural space. Third, As a result, we have come to know the correlation between the characteristics of Yin and Yang and the understanding of architectural space.
