    In this study, the antiviral activity of three compounds (allicin, capsaicin, quercetin) present in traditional Kimchi in Korea was evaluated against influenza A virus A/PR/08/34 (H1N1) using MDCK cells. CCK8 assay was applied for determining the anti- influenza A virus (IAV) effects of components. According to the results, quercetin revealed the highest anti IAV activity among these tested compounds. Also, pre-treatment and periodic treatment with quercetin were compared. The periodic-treatment showed higher cell viability than pre-treatment (87.5% and 65.7%, respectively) of the mock cells. Based on plaque assay, periodic treatment markedly reduced the viral titer by 1.3-log fold compared to the mock cell. Using FACS analysis, the percentage of live cells in the periodic-treated samples (76.2%) pre-treated (69.7%) were significantly higher than mock sample (44.4%).
