This paper aims to examine Byron’s Childe Harolde Pilgrilmage in view of Nomadism. Nomadism originally means a continuous movement of space, such as the nomadic way of life, but Deleuze especially, uses the term to refer to a journey of thought exploring a new life, freedom from space and time, and a series of actions breaking taboos.
Childe Harolde Pilgrimage, a “travelogue,” is a poem that embodies Nomadism not only externally but also internally. Byron overturns the content and form of romance, resulting in a de-territorialization out of fixed areas and functions along the ‘line of flight.’ So he couldn’t get comfort through nature and art that he encounters during his travels. However, at the end of the poem, the poet finds himself transformed saying “I am different from the past” after separating from the fictional Herald. In this sense, Byron is a traveler, Nomad who, as Deleuze put it, escapes from the territory that controls and immobilizes himself and becomes a creative self.
