The effectiveness of rail grinding has been demonstrated through a number of studies, it is being performed in mainly domestic high speed railway and urban railway. In the case of domestic conventional railway, the new railway line has been operated the initial rail grinding, other part of the defect elimination grinding. In this study, to establish the execution plan of rail grinding for domestic conventional railway, the economic analysis for the conditions of rail grinding classified into eight types for the section from Cheongnyangni to Gyeongju at Chungang Line was carried out. Therefore, It was analyzed that it is appropriate to change from the corrective grinding to the preventive-cyclic grinding in order to reduce the maintenance costs of domestic conventional railway. It is necessary to establish an optimal rail grinding method considering the annual operation cost and aintenance cost of the rail grinding.
