얕은기초의 지지력과 침하에 미치는 크기효과를 파악하기 위해 평판과 다양한 크기의 기초를 가정하여 유한요소해석을 수행하고 이론식에 의한 결과와 비교해 보았다. 해석에서 고려한 평판에 대하여 유한요소해석결과 얻은 극한지지력은 이론식에 의한 극한지지력에 비해 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 수치해석결과에 따르면 모래지반에 놓인 띠기초의 극한지지력은 이론식에 의한 극한지지력보다 크기효과의 영향을 크게 받았으며 점토지반에 놓인 띠기초의 경우 크기효과의 영향은 없었다. 정사각형기초에 대해서는 대체로 기초지반의 종류에 관계없이 크기효과의 영향이 없었다. 수치해석결과에 따르면 기초의 침하량은 기초지반 종류에 관계없이 이론식과는 달리 크기효과의 영향을 받아 대체로 그 크기가 기초폭에 비례하였다.
