The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the development of Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs). More specifically, the data were provided by identifying the preferred services and programs by potential candidates of independent livings in the CCRCs. A web-based online survey was conducted between 9th and 20th of February, 2017, with 507baby-boomer participants living in the Seoul-Incheon-Gyeongki capital area and the five metropolitan cities of Korea, among whom 433persons (85.4%) indicated themselves potential candidates. It turned out that healthcare was the most demanding service. Of particular concern in healthcare were a basic urgent and nursing care, meal menu and time reservation, and a cleaning and laundry service. Among the social and leisure programs, it then turned out that of great interest are gardening, and picnics and tourism. The respondents’ needs on the services were also clustered into three types: ‘low’, ‘medium’ and ‘high’. The characteristics of the ‘high’ type were owner of own house. In general, the candidates expressed strong demands on and interests in the services and programs provided, although the strengths were again different depending on the gender, educational attainment and job. The findings from this study should provide a guidance when services and programs are offered in the future CCRCs in Korea.
