This Christ’s leadership is typically conceived as a directive to be imitated perhaps because Christians often situate themselves in the historical narrative settings of the Gospels when believers were not yet indwelt by the Holy Spirit. This paper investigates the other side of Christ’s leadership which cannot be imitated by creatures; the ascended Christ’s ongoing priestly leadership adds cooperation as yet another dimension. Christ invites cooperation from his bride because she is already endowed with the dynamic provided by the Holy Spirit, when he mediates Christ’s presence to her. While Christ’s ongoing leadership is through intercession each believer is called to participate in the edification of the church by pursuing three areas: Obedience with other believers for fruitfulness, intimacy with God through faith, and overcoming trials with unwavering hope in the future glory. These three emphases are demonstrated by three different New Testament writers, John, Paul and the writer of Hebrews.
