견관절 안정성에 있어서 관절 와 순 상완 이두 근 장두 복합체의 역할은 명확하지는 않지만 젊은 환자, 특히 운동 선수의 경우 superior labrum anterior to posterior (SLAP) 단독 병변만으로 불안정성이 야기될 수 있고, 급성 혹은 만성 견관절의 탈구에서 SLAP 병변은 흔한 동반 병리 중 하나인 것은 잘 알려진 사실이다. SLAP 병변은 X형까지 분류되어 있는데 II형, 그리고 IV형부터 X형까지가 관절 불안정성과 관련이 있다. 관절 불안정성이 동반된 젊은 환자에서 관절경 수술이 선호되는 진단 및 치료 수단이며, 수술 시 관절 안정성에 필요한 관절 와 순의 모든 해부학적 문제를 복구하고자 노력해야 한다. 관절 안정성 회복의 측면에서 SLAP 및 Bankart 병변에 대한 관절경적 봉합술의 좋은 임상적 결과들을 보고하고 있으나 장기적인 경과 관찰이 더 필요하고, SLAP 병변과 관절 와 상완 관절 불안정성 간의 관계에 대한 연구가 더 요구된다.
