After an economic innovation in 1986, Vietnam has changed remarkably from a closed-economy to an open, active, with the impressive achievements in economic growth which have been the focus of many debations. This study is conducted to partially examine how Vietnam get successful, especially the reasons concerning foreign factors. In detail, we assess the impact of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as well as trade openness on economic growth in Vietnam from 2006 to 2015. The model analyzes the dynamic panel data from 63 provinces provided by Vietnamese General Statistics Office, adding national data which are collected from the World Bank database. The two-step GMM estimation is employed to find out the role of FDI inflows and foreign trade. As a result, there is a positive influence of trade openness, FDI on economic growth. However, due to the effect of import-export activities, the relationship between FDI and economic growth tends to reverse. This means that foreign trade policy has limited the impact of FDI on economic growth. In addition, other macroeconomic elements such as labor force, inflation rate, exchange rate, financial development, and economic growth in the previous years are also determined to have affectation on Vietnam"s economic growth during the period 2006-2015.
