In this paper, we examined the morphophonological alternations in the morphological process of Middle Korean. In Particular, we focused on the aspect of the morphophonological alternations of case markers and inflectional ending dependings on consonants and vowels. We also discussed the motivations behind morphophonological alternations, and their phonological changes in detail.
As a result, we can see that these morphophonological alternations are due to the vowel connection constraint. In order to avoid vowel chain, phonological changes occurred, and morphs of case marker and inflectional ending were replaced. The morphophonological alternations according to the vowel connection constraints differ with different morphological processes. It naturally follows that each morphological process has different morphological characteristics.
