초록· 키워드

By the 1990s, Busan had not been able to escape the structure of low-value-added industries. In order to overcome low growth, Busan has been investing in the auto parts industry since 2009. At this point, it is necessary to check whether the auto parts industry can play a pivotal role in Busan economy in order to sustain the auto parts industry as a regional growth engine. This study aims to analyze the potential and economic feasibility of the auto parts industry as a growth engine industry by using various approaches. First of all, efficiency analysis and total productivity change over time have been measured to harden competitiveness of local main industries. The main results are summarized as follows. First, regional average of six years shows that the automobile parts industry in Busan is relatively favorable compared to other areas, but it is confirmed that production activities are somewhat inefficient within the region. Therefore, it is suggested that productivity improvement should be achieved through efficiency improvement rather than scale adjustment. In addition, the automobile parts industry in Busan was analyzed as having an average productivity decline for three years from 2010. However, from 2013 onwards, total productivity increased by 19% due to improved scale efficiency, and in 2014-2015, net productivity increased 11%, higher than the national average. In sum, the analysis of the reality will help to present the policy direction of the regional auto parts industry.
