초록·키워드
The purpose of this study was to examine the gender differences in physical activity(PA), disease management and quality of life (QOL) in older adults with osteoarthritis (OA) using data from 2014 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VI-2). Participants include 372 individuals (men=70, women=302) with OA and over 65 years old. PA was measured by questions of the number of the type, frequency, and duration of PA and was categorized into the low, moderate and vigorous level. Questions about age at OA diagnosis, pain, and treatment were measured, and European Quality of Life-5D (EQ-5D) was measured for QOL. In Results, 54.3% men and 63.2% women had current treatment. Women have more hip and back pain and knee stiffness than men. In addition, women were less likely to perform enough aerobic and strength exercise than men. Further, women reported more problem in mobility, usual activities, and pain/discomfort and lower QOL than men. After controlling for covariates, QOL was significantly higher only in women with the moderate level of PA than the lower level of PA. In future, further investigation using prospective study designs and individual-level active exposure is needed for ascertainment.
